meet the artist

Hello, I'm Jennifer. I'm an artist and illustrator living in Nashville, Tennessee. I work primarily in watercolor, gouache, pen and ink...though I have a weakness for art supplies and love to play with new mediums. I create art for children's books as well as editorial illustration.

• By the time I finished elementary school, I had lived in eight houses in five states from Florida to Oregon. (And I wasn't a military brat.) Books and art supplies were my constant, loyal companions.

• As a child, I loved a good grocery store coloring contest.

• I began to draw as soon as I could hold a crayon, but I stepped away from art in my teen years because I didn't feel like I fit in with the rest of the art crowd. 

• In college, I got over myself and received a B.A. in fine art with a minor in English literature.

• I've worked as an art director at an advertising agency, a designer for a magazine as well as a freelance artist.

• I get to be the mom of the two best kids on the planet. My oldest son is autistic and has introduced me to a whole new way of seeing and experiencing the world.

• At any point in the day, you'll find me with coffee, a Diet Coke or dark chocolate in my hand.

• I love to work traditionally. I think digital tools certainly have their place and can be very useful, but there's just an unmatched quality to traditional art.

• I'm currently working from my couch and dreaming of one day having a little studio space I can call my own.
